W124 Odometer Shaft Axial Play?
Hello All,
I've got a customer's W124 300TD instrument cluster here with a bit of an issue. The odometer gear shaft appears to have some play in it where it can become disengaged from the input shaft/worm gear I noticed that there is no retainer type mechanism on that shaft allowing it to move axially....maybe its missing? Or does the gear need to be moved inwards toward the odometer gears? I'm not sure. I dont have any W124 speedometer pods to look at but I did have a W126. It did have a retainer device on both the odo/trip pods. Photos: Album of work: W124 - Instrument Cluster Repair Work - Imgur Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks All! -Kris

Figured it out. Sent an email to OdometerGears.com and learned that this happens when the lead gear fails.
Will be placing an order for a replacement lead gear as well as the other gear too.
