210 side mirror removal
Did a search and didn't come up with what I'm after. Didn't check the general discussion forum - maybe it's in there. My E300 is going in tomorrow for some paint work. One of the things I want them to do is paint both outside mirror housings. I figured it would be easier/better to just take off the housings and hand them to them to paint rather than leave them on the car. I replaced my driver's side mirror several years ago with the help of a good thread here. Can't exactly remember the process. Need some instructions on removing the housings. Can anyone help?
Thanks. |
Push the mirror rearward
Look in the gap, there is a wire bail retained on a tab Stick a screwdriver in and pop the bail off the tab Pull off the shell If you want to remove the entire mechanism, it comes off from the outside, remove the screws holding the mirror frame to the door, and unplug the connector, once you have the shell off. |
Thanks Jay-Bob. I got them off. Turns out that a couple of years ago I replaced the entire assembly on the driver's side, so it is the newer version that comes off a little differently than the original one on the passenger side. The plastic post that holds the spring on the passenger side broke just like the driver's side did a few years ago. Got to repair that this week. I did the driver's side fix, so I should be able to do it again.
