buying a car from out-of-state dealer

Anyone here buy a pre-owned car from an MB dealer that's a plane ride away from home? Any tips or suggestions you can share? Thanks.

Hmm.

I'd be sure to have them get the paperwork for your state in their possession before you depart.

ask them to pick you up at the airport, and handle anything that arises.

x2 to vstech,
check your states DMV website, make sure you have the correct tax and registration documents, and take them with you or print them out there for the dealer to fill out the bits needed if applicable.

Im going through this right now and all I did was drive 5 miles across the border into MA. What state takes sales tax on the purchase is important to know beforehand.

Locally, MA did not charge sales tax since it was out of state, and RI, now will take a bite of the transaction, but some states don't do this, and you want to make sure that your state will credit you sales tax paid to another state if its a requirement there, and not double charge you.

Usually the dealer should know this, but if you are buying a car say on the west coast and bringing it home to VT, they may not know specifics, and be experienced in bordering states only

Also know whether or not you need the sale notarized. The dealer should have a notary on hand but not all of them do.
