What's burning 84SD climate

I was driving on the interstate and smelled what I thought was burning wires or rubber. Turning the climate control off stopped the smell. The auxiliary water pump was disconnected to take it out of the equation.

Today I pulled the blower expecting it to be bad. I hooked it to a spare battery and have let it run for 1/2 hr. There is no indication of a problem.

The car has been idling without problem with climate on and no blower. I'll probably go drive and swap the extra blower if driving without doesn't turn up anything.

Any thoughts?

Solved. The blower has 2 speeds. It seemed to work on high but eventually got hot and stiff compared to the one from the parts car.

This is a good reminder for all W126 owners to clean the leaves and debris from the blower resister under the brake booster.

Leaves didn't have anything to do with it. This blower is worn out. I've always kept the leaves clear. It is an ongoing battle in the fall because we have lots of trees and no cover.

I had to look closely with a mirror to find the screws.

I understand that. My comment was meant to remind anyone who may have forgotten about the leaf issue. It is pervasive and can be catastrophic if left unattended.

Glad you solved your problem, though.
