KKK turbo seals
Hey guys,
I apologize if this has been answered before, but I was not able to find anything definite from my searching. The 87 300d with the OM603 engine has a leak from the turbo that has been getting progressively worse. From all of the troubleshooting information I have followed on this forum...it is definitely an issue with the turbo. I have the KKK turbo, which I am having trouble finding parts for. I ordered one kit off ebay and nothing was the same size so I had to return it. Is there anyone out there you are aware of that sells a rebuild kit with new seals for this turbo (I can only find kits for the Garrett)? Also, is there a good how- to out there, or should I just think about sending it away to one of those turbo rebuild companies? Thanks for the help! Tim

Turbo gasket kit
EPC says #603 090 08 80 is a Gasket kit for the Turbo for:
124.133 OM 603.960 ($22.23 Dealer Wholesale Pricing) Disclaimer: Of course EPC doesn't tell you if it's a gasket kit for the pipes in the turbo stream. Or an actual set of gaskets for the internal turbo parts. (Or if it's for the Garrett or the KKK) BUT,The arrow line in the EPC pictogram does point to the Turbo Housing. it's worth investigating. ________________________________________________________________ File under interesting,Turbocharger M.B. GARRETT turbos for Mercedes Benz passenger cars and vans - Applications - TurboMaster It's Turbomaster's website's (In Spain) listing's of Turbochargers used by Mercedes. AND with it you can look up parts numbers for Garrett Turbos by Vehicle. ALSO, the site "Recognizes" what MAY be the O.E. (KKK) part number SERIES for the Turbo (s) [5324-988-6700] BUT I can't figure out how to get it to show me the Gasket/Seal set for it. You'll understand this AFTER reading the LookUp on Borg Warner's website: Product Search | BorgWarner Turbo Systems (Use the "Vehicle Manufacturer" search option and follow the prompts.) THERE WERE THREE DIFFERENT KKK TURBOS USED BY MERCEDES DURING THAT PERIOD: 5324-988-6701 from 9/1/85 5324-988-6702 from 10/1/86 (If I were a Gambler,I MIGHT bet this is yours. BUT.I'm not. AND I know you won't either) 5324-988-6704 from 7/1/91 If I were a forensic parts order investigator (And we all know I'm nothing of the Kind), I might surmise that the MULTIPLE KKK Turbocharger application uses by Mercedes during that time period is what happened to your original OnLine order for a gasket kit. I.E. the online vendor sent you a gasket kit for a KKK turbo that was used on a Mercedes. (BUT which of the 3 different KKK turbochargers would the kit have fit? It wasn't yours obviously.) Turbomaster's website contact information: Contact Information - TurboMaster What I would do if T'were mine... Is: Get the Model and serial numbers off of your KKK Turbocharger AND call Turbomaster in Spain and ask if there is a gasket (or Rebuild) kit available. NEVER MIND... I called TM in Spain (+34 916 569 273) and: 1.They do not sell/vend /deal with the general public. 2.The Nice gentleman said if I were to send him the numbers from the Turbo's I.D. plate by E-mail sales@turbomaster.info along with my company name he'd let me know the id for the gasket kit and a Quote. (He's talking 2-3 kits minimum) 3.The nice Spanish gentleman said Borg Warner had purchased KKK about ten years ago AND they might have access to info/kits. 4. BW's closed until after the holidays. Telephone 828 684 4000 Borg Warner's contact information: Locations|BorgWarner Turbo Systems There are more than one typeof KKK (K 24)turbo out there, So it's Very Important to use Model/Serial numbers from the existing Turbo. _________________________________________________________________ When the KKK turbo # is searched under Rebuild on You Tube this comes up: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=rebuilding+KKK+Turbocharger+5324-988-6700+ ___________________________________________________________________________________________ And yet another confirmation of the Insanity you're forced to go through owning 1 of 3 possible different KKK turbos. From an Ozzie turbo specialist: Mercedes Benz Turbo

Wow, thanks for all of the help and information! This is the kit I had ordered a couple years ago when I did the head exchange on this car: KKK K24 Turbo Rebuild Repair Kit Mercedes Peugeot Alfa | eBay. I saw some early signs of turbo seal leaking back then, but it wasn't nearly as bad as now...I needed the car so I put the turbo back on. Now the leak is much worse and I will need to do something with it soon.
I know I took some pictures back then of the housing and some numbers on it...I'll see if I can find that. If not, I might be able to sneak in with a mirror and find the numbers. It would make sense that the kit was incorrect if there were 3 different models on this car.

Call Borg Warner after the Holidays
They have basically confirmed on their website that your turbo is the
5324-988-2702 / MB part # 003 096 3299 Which information is cross confirmed by the Ozzie website PROCHARGE (MAYBE...We really don't POSITIVELY know YET which turbo MB put on. BUT the Turbo suppliers say that's what on your chassis) AND finagle out of them the gasket kit part number so you can order one. You might have to call BW's location in Germany since I suspect it's the Old KKK "Brick and Mortar" site. Hang in there...It's out there somewhere.Too many of those engines were sold worldwide for kits not to be available. (No Matter what Kent Bergma claims)

Well now I remember the issue...the tag that should be riveted or attached to the turbo housing somehow is missing. I found an old picture from my old phone where I took a picture of the numbers on the turbo cast...but they don't really seem to cross reference anything. I'll give a couple of these places a call and see what I can figure out.

Seems like I figured out my own dilemma. The identification tag is probably on the inside of the turbo...as seen in this link on the 4th picture down where someone pulled apart his KKK turbo. I guess I'll need to pull it out of there and start disassembling it to find out the exact turbo specs. K24 rebuild. Pics inside. :: motorgeek.com
