strange exhaust issue

On my 1980 300SD, the exhaust pipe and muffler come off the hooks when going over speed bumps at times. It has happened a couple of times.

There are a couple of hooks that rubber rings fit into. I can't figure why this has started happening. Any thoughts on how to fix?

How old are the rubber rings? Maybe they need replacement. If its possible, try bending the hooks a little.

the hooks are quite strong thick metal. I can't understand how if this happens to my car it does not happen to all of them.

If anyone has a clever solution I would love to try it out.

Monaco, are you using genuine MB rubber rings and are they both the same size?

I would assume they are MB. They are the same size. Do you think having smaller/larger ones (probably could not fit anything larger) would help?

I fitted some non MB rings and they kept coming off. They were supposedly the same size but offering them up to some genuine parts they were actually larger.Genuine parts should have the logo on them. You may get some joy using smaller rings. If to your knowledge they've never been replaced it could just be old age and they've stretched.Bear:)

new donuts are very round (nice description) and should be kinda hard to make it all fit together. It could be your rings have streched out to the point they can pop off. If you look the muffler is suspended between the hooks making it pretty hard to slide off.
