transmission not working in any gear

I have an 1984 300d with 360k miles on it. It's probably the original tranny. I've had the car since it have 220k on it. The tranny has been leaking fluid from the front seal for years. I have to usually start in the 2nd and then when I get to around 40mph I put it into drive or it will slip.

Today I was stuck in snow so I was rocking the car from 2nd to reverse attempting to get traction. After about 15 minutes of this the wheels stopped spinning regardless of what gear was in. I added a some tranny fluid since it was a little low but the wheels would not engage when putting the car in any gear.

Is there any linkage that I may of knocked off driving over the snow?

Does it sound like I fried the tranny?

Thanks for any advice.

Pete

If you feel the selector engaging gears, it's unlikely something dislodged. If the shifter moves effortlessly, then yeah, you might have popped the linkage loose.

I got under the car today while a friend shifted through all the gears and I saw the connection to the transmission moving so it must be something internal.

Thx
