I need 12v portable

I was at the Pic-A-Part and found 2 front seats in great condition! They are all the way to the back. The front bolts are easily removed in this position. In order to remove the rear bolts, I need to move the seat forward and up.

What type of small battery can I get to move the seats to the desired position? I can either try the battery terminals and fusebox or am willing to play with the wires under the actual seats.

The car is a 93 300E I believe.

Thank You!

Answer

A small motorcycle or lawn mower battery works fine.

Won't the scrap yard help you with this? Having never been to a Pic-A-Part before I don't know if this is possible but here in Europe most scrap yards have a set of sack trucks with a big old battery on it and a set of jump leads...

...OK perhaps you'd have to push it a long way through the mud but...

...if that is too much and you want your own personal power source companies like Black and Decker sell portable power packs that are meant to help with cold starting - basically a Li-Ion battery pack you plug into the lighter socket (of all the daft places)

I use a 14.4v power drill battery, 2 leads with small clips at the end. The battery is compact and powerful. Connecting it to the main battery terminal may or may not work as one never knows whether there is any wiring fault in the car. It may bust the battery if there is a short somewhere.

I only wanted the seat cushion the last time so I butchered up the wiring and hooked the clips directly to the motor to move the seat forward and backwards. If you want the whole seat then it may be better to hook the power to the switch on the door panel. It should be quite easy to figure out the wiring to the control motors. A multimeter may help.

+2 drill battery, but any voltage will work for that. Doesn't have to be 12 or 14v. I've used 18v lithium to test electrics before, surely won't hurt a DC motor for what you're trying to do.

I use a Drill Battery also. Works good on window regulators, checking Blower motors etc...

I used the leads from a cheap free HF Digital Volt meter, and soldered the correct connectors for my battery connections. works great.

Bought some BMW sears recently using the drill battery. Works great.
