oil pressure line need bleeding?
If one installs a new oil pressure line does the air need to be bled out of it? I don't really see why it would, but ????

I have a New Oil Pressure Line I need to install someday. But, I heve never read anything on if it needs bleeding before you screw it in.
It is clear that bleeding it would allow it to work as it should right away but it is not clear if when the Car sits a long time of all the Oil leaks back out of the Oil Pressure line and you are left with a colum of Air inside anyway.

Bleeding the line will provide the most accuracy. Oil is not compressible where air is. It may read about a pound or 2 less if that but with the accuracy of the gauge you won't even notice it.

Doesn't make any difference. Air will compress but it will still be at the same pressure as the oil. The only possible effect would be a little dampening of the pressure as changes occur and since the gauge runs off the scale most of the time it would be irrelevant.

Reguardless of how long the Oil Pressure line is does anyone know if the Oil drains out of it if the Car sits unused for a long period? Now that I think of it when I replaced the Block to Oil Filter Housing Gasket I did not bleed the Air out of the Oil Pressure Gauge Line when everthing was back together and it works the same as it did befor I removed the Oil Filter Housing and disconnected the Pressure Line.

I don't think it will drain down unless the hose is unhooked from the gauge.

I believe the Oil Filter Housing drains out of Oil eventually except where there is areas where it pools. It will Drain back through the Oil Pump and also past the Bearing clearences and as far as I know there is no valve that holds the Oil in the Oil Pressure Line.
If the Oil was somehow sealed in the Oil Pressure Line then the Oil Pressure would not go to zero. If there is a colum of Air in the Oil Pressure line when you shut the Engine off it is going to push the Oil out of the line to some extent. However, over time maybe the Air in the Oil Pressure line gets absorbed by the Oil in the line.

You can bleed it by simply cranking the motor. I have a cheap push button wired up with alligator clips and bump the starter over a bit, with the fuel/key turned off.
On my 115 the oil filter is down low and drains the oil cooler when you remove the filter. The FSM doesn't even say to fill the filter with oil, the entire oil cooler is empty. It says to start it for 30 seconds and check the oil again. I fill it to the top the first time. Crank until it's halfway through the dipstick, fill it again, and start it. |

I have had engines in and out and never bled the Oil Line.
The gauge on the w123 pegs as soon as the engine is started. (cold) and once warmed up, the oil will be around 2 bars on the gauge. Rev the engine to over 1200 RPM and it will peg the gauge to 3 Bars or 45 lbs. The Oil pressure is close to 100psi. If you decide to bleed the Oil Line with the engine running, you be sure to have a oily mess. Put it together and don`t worry about it. Charlie
