Two cars, one idea

Let's say TheDon bought a cheap, brown, rust free 240D for a g note with a nice interior, body, and paint. Let's also say he has a W124 300D with a sad body, suspension, and interior...

What's TheDon to do???

Stay tuned......

Oh dear...

I once struggled with that temptation, but no longer!

Yes, as they say, "photos or it didn't happen".
However, it would have been nice to have found the W124 300D with a manual trans. That combination of parts will still be great for the W123, even if it is an automatic.

Yeah a 603 with 5 speed would be nice. I think I can get it rolling in a few months if I get all of my research figured out and line everything up. A swede (I think ) did a swap over a weekend but it was somewhat sloppy and I'm going for a polished to some extent job.

Someday you can use the auto 240D driveshaft front half and the 126 603 engine arms. Only issue is the radiator has to shift to the passenger side 1/2" or so to clear the power steering pulley. Plus I don't have the ACC it's all manual so I just need to plumb in the cooling lines to the valve and that should be fine.

Might need an auto 240D radiator so the transmission can have a cooler and I'll have to get a bigger E fan to stick on the front of the condenser. Since the fan won't fit. But that's using the auto 240D driveshaft and not shifting the engine back a little bit which I think I can do with some 1/4 steel plate and grade 8 hardware. Then I run into the issue of the transmission mount and the custom driveshaft.

Sooo I need to think it out.
