Drop the tank or run new vent lines?

So far, no one has replied to my question, so giving up posting in one thread.

In the saga of the plugged vent line, should I drop the tank or run new vent line from the tank fitting and to the outside?

Thank you so very much!

vent line

In a perfect world, running a new vent line is the correct answer. On the other hand, I have a client with a daily driver (w126 300SD) w/plugged vent. He stopped by about 7 days ago. It's winter, car's underside is packed with snow, he wants it now & doesn't have time for a new vent line right now because he's leaving the state as soon as he leaves my shop - what do I do? I get a vented cap from another wreck and put it on his tank. He's underway, tank's vented & capped. We'll fix it the next time he's in town (or not). BTW he's put 3000+ miles on it since we swapped out the cap - no issues.

Charlie, thank you so very much for the help!

I have been leaving the cap partly off for at least half that amount.

I didn't know there are vented caps. Would it not be better than running a vent line which might leak?

That's what I did on my 83, then shoved a 1/8 o.d. nylon line in it and shoved the other end into the filler door drain.

Well, think what I have done will hopefully resolve it.

Thank y'all for the help, though!
