Which do you guys feel is a better car? In your opinion share what you like or dislike about the two?. Which car has more value to it?

Which 190D? A W108, ponton or W201? I have an 85 Euro 240 D and an 87 190D 2.5 NA (w201) w/ cut springs and a broke front sway bar, and a similar parts car.

The 190D has more power, but not more than you would add by adding a turbo to a 616.

The 190D corners on rails, but by no means does it float like a 123 car.

The 190D is so far, good in the snow, and has ABS as well.

The 190D has far less space under the hood. The crossflow head means that the IP is buried under the intake.

The 190D uses less fuel.

There is a lot more space in the trunk and back seat of a 123 car.

I plan to drive both until they are dust.

That would be like comparing a bicycle to a Harley... Both have two wheels, but they serve different purposes.

One isn't better than the other, they are different.

Sorry, 190d 2.2. I really like both of them.

240 is much nicer looking. I'd like the 123 with a 617. Too many projects so that is unlikely to happen.

85SD 240K & stopped counting painted, putting bac together. 84SD 180,000. sold to a neighbor and member here but I forget his handle. The 84 is much improved from when I had it. 85TD beginning to repair to DD status. Lots of stuff to do.

Both are old cars now. Each has its strong points. The newer car will handle and perhaps ride better but be more prone to cause troubles with the engine. I'd like either and would try to find the very best example of whichever model I happened to like and buy that.

I'd like to have a 190d one day but nice ones are really hard to find....

I've had at least a dozen 240s and am fixing one up now. I love them too. Reliable, simple to work on, robust as all get out and if you have a later one not so bad on rust. Ride and handling very good too, but a bit buzzy on the highway. If you have a lot of highway travel in store for the car perhaps the 190 is the way to go.

Alot of highway driving, I live in in Tennessee so lot of steep hills. So maybe a 240d would struggle? I have 2 190ds and they do pretty good here.

Whilst the W201 and the W123 were well made I think the W123 will be shown to be longer lasting. But saying that both suffer from rust problems.

My personal choice would be the W123 because it is a nicer car to work on. I find the more modern W201 cramped and a bit awkward. You see I'm all about fixing cars and not really driving them...

Ya haha, I think we all enjoy working on these cars. The 190ds are more of a pain to work on. I would much rather work on a 240d.

If you get a 240D in Tennessee you really need to find one with a 4 speed manual. The auto is really a dog and I would think it would be nearly unusable on the hills in Chattanooga.

Well, that's what you have gears for. I crossed the Alps with four adults and a load of luggage in a 59 vw beetle back in 1970. Lots of cars passed us but later we passed them with their hoods up billowing steam!

I agree on either of these to get a stick.

Those cars are different answers to different questions.

Having owned both W123 240Ds and a W201 190D 2.5, I don't see them as comparable cars. A fairer comparison would be to compare the W123 to the W124.

If it's a hobby your looking for, go with the W123. If it's a daily driver, the 190D wins. Bear in mind the 190D is small, much smaller than the 240D. This can be a minus or a plus.....

Sounds like the 190D wins for all around use then. The 240D would be good for around the town driving for me. Im thinking of selling one of my 190D's to get a 240D.I have my eye on a local 240D.

It seems to me the 190D does not have much worth to it. The 240D seems to be able to sell for more. The 190Ds sell from anywhere from $1000-2500 here locally. Sometimes they sell lower.

I drove my 240D back and forth over the hill to San Diego many times and even drove it to Atlanta and back once. A 240D will get you anywhere you need to go, just not very quickly. My only experience with a 190 is riding in the back of one when I was 11. It reminded me of the Ford Grenada my mom had at the time.
