Fuel filter change...

Diesel fuel quality can be variable across fuel stations here in the US. Recommended change interval is 27.5k miles but I know some folks change this more often.

I did this after buying my CDI along with air filter change.

The Mann fuel filter is OEM.

Stock hose clamps use special click tool to release.

Air filter change...

Change interval is long....58k mile+.

Probably a good idea to inspect between that interval and change if necessary.

I also use a sharpie marker to put the date I change the filter on the filter itself.

Mahle looks like the OEM filter here (it has fins inside to "stir" air within the air housing).

*Cabin heat is at the ready when bone cold because they're electrically heated too. The idle drops when you reduce the fan speed, lowering electric draw on the system.

*THe car doors cannot be manually locked with the door key while idling. I miss this feature my previous MBs had - letting the car idle while I go into a store from the fuel pumps - esp. in the winter when the engine isn't up to temp.

Unlike the W210, the W211's fog lights do not automatically illuminate for 30 seconds in the dark upon shutting down, and exiting the car in the dark. I miss this feature that would illuminate the garage for 30-seconds when arriving home after dark. Unless the headlight switch is in Auto position. I don't like to use the Auto feature, is why it's a hassle.

Early 2005s have butterfly armrest and residual heat feature....

Early 2005 e320cdis have an interesting "butterfly" center arm rest as well as a cup holder that raises out of the center console and pivots toward passenger.

Also there is a "res" button on HVAC that provides heat while the car is off for up to 1/2 hour. This is nice when it is cold out and you go into a store.

The center console was redesigned part way through the model year and the heat feature was eliminated. I am guessing the cup holder was easily damaged and the residual heater ran the battery down on a car with lots of devises already.

I think both of these features are nice though and add an elegant touch to a well made and thought out vehicle.

That just reminded me of another feature 'missing' at least from the '06 E320 CDI I own - the lack of a '30-minute cabin-keep-warm' feature the W210 "99 E300 I owned had.

Another feature missing on the '06 W211 is the fat, 'leather-wrapped' steering wheel. My W210 '99 E300 had that feature, and it somewhat cheapens the W211 to me.
