Spinning axle nuts.

Keep spinning the drivers rear axle nut with ASD in full lockup. Thinking about adding some loctite (maybe the red stuff). Any suggestions?

The original bolt was secured in place by deforming two of the outside areas that prevent it from spinning.
Removal is usually a pain because of it and the nuts are usually toast. I forget off-hand the proper terminology to use.

you are talking about the nut in the hub that holds the axle to the rotor flange right?

how are you staking the nut? the cut should latch the nut so it cannot come out without unpeening... take a pic of the nut torqued in and staked.

With a cold chisel and a 2lb hammer. Let me get the wheel off.

here's a crude drawing of how the nut should be peened...

I'm going to say you have stripped / miss matched axle splines. The peening the nut is so it does not loosen over time not as an anti rotation stop to drive the car.

this is a good point...

the nut notch is to maintain torque... perhaps your axles are not fully seated in the hub? is it POSSIBLE you are spinning the axle???

I'm going say the inner race of the inner bearing is turning on the hub. Probably because the crush sleeve is crushed too much and not keeping the race tight on the hub. This makes the race try to turn the nut.

Sounds like you're talking about a 123 or 126 car and it looks like this is a 124 situation, I think.

The axle nuts on 201, 129, and 124 cars is pretty easy to strip as it's threading is rather shallow. Also, check the threads on the axle stub for rust or other stuff in its threads preventing the nut from turning enough to seat and secure the axle in place.

What car is this on? I was thinking of the modern double row angular contact packaged ball bearing pressed onto a hub and a splined axle shaft holding everything together.
