differences in cruise control amps for w124 diesel?

i'm trying to work through why my cruise doesn't work in my 1987 300td. i have gone through jamesdean's test procedures and still no luck. i removed actuator and took it apart. i found moisture in there and corroded traces on board so i replaced it with one that i cleaned the slider contacts on and oiled before installing. everything sounded good and current draw/ ohm readings were good. the cruise stalk and brake switch also worked. i put my multimeter on the speed sensor "block" and got a random reading on both a/c and d/c. sometimes wold read 11vdc if i creeped forward. i dont know if this is normal or not. all brake lights are good german bulbs as are all others and none are out. all other electronics on that fuse work too. i took the amp out and touch up all solder joints and replaced 5 capacitors. (2) 10uf, (2) 2.2uf, and (1) 22uf. nothing happens at all when i push the stalk in any direction. on top of that i think i cracked the pcb a bit after the 5th time removing it from the case. anything else besides the amp it could be? and my main question is what other amps are compatible? i heard it mentioned that these units are paired to a certain engine or trans/ diff/ chassis and cannot be swapped. i have another amp from an 87 300e that didn't work but i could put my new caps in that? and what about the one's with the "coding plug" can i put in certain resistors to make one of those work in my car? the yards out here never get w124 om603's but there are plenty of w124/ w126 i can get amps from.

I replaced all my OM60x cars with cruise amp from 190E. The 190E is easy to remove and plentiful in JY. It is behind the passenger carpet. I try to use the late 90's 190E and everyone I picked from the JY works.

Ok, i will try one! there are a few 190's out here now too! still curious about the other stuff. maybe JamesDean will chime in but that makes me feel better about ones from other models working. maybe it's the rear end that decides the cruise control? so it won't engage at too low of speed or won't activate until a higher speed?
