AC wheel question

Can anyone tell me where this little metal plate goes in this wheel? It's the AC temperature control wheel out of my 240D. For reasons that do not need to be discussed at this time I saw fit to disassemble it. Actually rather simple, and quite simple to re-assemble. Problem is while I had it apart on the bench I noticed this thin flat metal plate which had fallen out unnoticed by me. So the question I have it where does it fit?

It's lying beside the other components in the first pic here...

As I see it there are only two likely locations that seem to be suitable. One is here...

Or here...

Any ideas as to the correct placement?

- Peter.

It can't go in either of those places. There would be marks on it, and the plate.

See if it fits inside the wheel.

On the white case there is a line that intersects the stain in the center... It looks about the same size as the metal piece... Maybe it conducts to a center shaft?

Inside the wheel itself is the answer! On the left side as seen in these pic's. It presses against a rod that somehow connects to the little BB that's in the wheel on the left there. Thanks for the input.
