220D Factory Tool Kit
I'm trying to complete the factory tool kit in my 1972 220D but I'm not quite sure which tools I'm missing.
This is what I currently have: - 8mm/10mm wrench Matador - 11mm/13mm wrench Dowidat - 14mm/17mm wrench Heyco - 17mm/19mm Dowidat - combination pliers Hapewe - flat head screwdriver insert Felo - phillips head screwdriver insert Felo - canvas tool rool - combination wrench (wheel nuts and jack) 115 581 01 46 This is what I think I'm missing: - wood screwdriver handle Felo - box with spare fuses 115 580 01 10 - wrench, box type (heater plugs) 000 589 17 03 (I have not been able to find any info on this tool) Does anyone have a known complete 220D tool kit for comparison? |

The Tool number given is not showing up on the Startek site.
Heater Plug may be Glow Plug and in the Pic is a pick of the Glow Plug Wrench that is something like 20.8mm; I can't remember which size but the fit the Loop/Filiment type Glow Plugs. Or perhaps Heater Plug is the Block Heater. But, that does not sound like something that would commonly be removed. The pic is a "lot" of Tools I bought and I have that Glow Plug Wrench some place.

I think you're right about heater plug meaning glow plug.
I have not seen a wrench quite like yours before. Does it have a part number on it? |

However, I did an eBay search for Mercedes 20.8mm Box Wrench and there was 2 of those Glow Plug Wrenches; one for Bid and another for sale. The part numbers on the eBay Wrenches start woth 000 but the rest is different. I am looking at a Spanish Owners Manual site to see if there is a diagram of the Tool Roll.

I think you're on to something.
I was able to find an illustration of the particular tool, 000 589 17 03. It's labeled 31 in the image below. The image is from the parts catalog of a different model car, but the part number is the same. |

Noah-
What made you think that 000 589 17 03, the GP wrench, was in the toolkit originally? I guess the gasser toolkits frequently come with spark plug wrenches, so it is not unreasonable that our 220d toolkits came with a glowplug wrench. But mine certainly doesn't have it. Mine is far from unmolested, but it has the open ended wrenches, the pliers, and the wheel lug tool. I don't even have the screwdrivers. My bag is the same color as yours, but sadly in much worse condition. Boo hoo. ha ha. Sorry to not have any other helpful details. Perhaps put a similar thread in the Vintage section. That audience is a little different and more likely to know this level of detail about the w115 toolkits.

The tool that is 2nd from the top in the pic from Diesel911 is a real handy one to have, as the hex stub fits the drain and fill plugs for the transmission and differential. However I believe mine came from the tool kit in our 190Db.

Looks like the Glow Plug Wrench has a lot of different part numbers. This is from an Engine Manual; part number 617 589 00 03 00.

According to this info the first number starting with 000 or 001 indicate a commercially available source.
MBUSA Tools have a second number of 589 so I am guessing that 581 may indicate made for vehicles sold in another Country. I have some other tools Made for Mercedes that don't follow they normal numbering pattern. When you find a Tool on the look up site once in a while they give the older part number for the Tool.
