Pneumatic Radio Challenge

So some of you have removed lots of "extraneous" vacuum components from your cars. This is your chance to determine whether you're an engineer or just an amateur tinkerer. Here's the challenge:

The vacuum circuit in a Mercedes is exactly analogous to an electrical circuit, and the parts map well into the world of electronics:

the hoses are wires
a Vacuum amplifier (BUFO) is a transistor
a VCV is a rheostat
a Vacuum delay valve is a choke
an EGR transducer is an electroresistor (analogous to a photoresistor)
a vacuum orifice is a resistor
a vacuum check valve is a diode
a reservac is a capacitor
the vacuum pump is a generator
a vacuum switchover valve is a relay
a transmission vacuum modulator is a solenoid
a boost sensor is a hybrid avalanche diode
an economy gauge is a voltmeter
an air mass sensor is an ammeter
a Mityvac is a signal injector

There you have a full range of active and passive components, as well as test equipment with which to work. Your challenge is to build a pneumatic AM radio receiver with these components. You can use a funnel and a balloon for a speaker. There are three levels of achievement:

1) Use an ordinary crystal radio as the detector, and an EGR transducer as your intermediate stage. (Electropneumatic solution)
2) Use a magneto-rheological shock absorber from a Cadillac as a tuner/detector. (Pneumohydraulic solution)
3) Use a supercooled gas as a detector (Cryopneumatic solution)

If you can't figure it out , your best bet is to put all that stuff back as the real engineers intended.

Slow night?

Never thought of those components that way, but you are right.

Cat Whisker on a Crystal with head phones would work best..

We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works
