w116 expansion valve brand

We got my brother's 300SD running again but need to figure out what to replace on the AC. We'll be converting it to parallel flow with a sanden compressor.

So my question now is about the expansion valve. $15 for the URO one, $30ish for 4 seasons and a few other not greatly regarded brands, and $240 from the dealer.

Any suggestions on what to get? It's not a complicated part and there is no way I'd buy that part from the dealer at $240 or around $200 wholesale

I'd sooner keep using the original one than install a cheap one. A mistake I'll only make once.

Would a W126 one fit? I got a Hella brand one for not too much $$$ last summer.

4 seasons is a name brand but everything seems to come from China these days.

The valve in the pic is a near universal type, are you going with R134 ? There might be other valves tuned to R134.

Yes, plan to do an R134 system. I would be interested in alternatives for the valve if they would give better performance

I don't have specific knowledge of what valve to select but do remember looking up parts and seeing the block style valves being marked R12 or R134. Being there is a web site for everything these days ( and things you really didn't want to know existed ) someone has to have posted this issue before even it if isn't MB.

Problem is the 116 doesn't use the block style, it uses the older style. Maybe it could be converted, I really don't know.

I wasn't saying to get a block type, I was saying to research the different block types than use that info to select the screw on type.
