Oversensitive Oil Level Sender? OM606
On the 98 E300 when my oil level is around half-way on the dipstick (maybe a little bit more), the oil level minimum indicator will come on. This seems clearly too high of a level for it to come on. Is the obvious solution simply to replace the sender or are there other possibilities?
The PO of my 99 had the same problem and replacing the sender did the trick. Maybe the simplest solution is simply to add a bit of oil and keep driving.

Not a horrible problem to have. Half quart early is better than half quart late! Hahaha

I guess the downside would be if you had one of those engines that tend to burn oil down to the halfway mark. My indicator didn't go on until 9500 miles after last oil change, so I'm not too concerned.

I had one on my 96 w210; sender was probably tired after 265k+ miles on it at that time. I just went to Junk yard pulled it out of an old Gas W210 and put it on *cost $1 for entry into the J/yard and $1 for part. I was cheap and did not even bothered to change the "o" ring. Working perfect so far.

Mine also are a quart early. Sensitive low-level switches seem to be a common problem with Mercedes, the windshield washer bottle is also very conservative and alarms way too early, IMO.

I actually went to the effort of changing one, in either my '87 (OM603) or '95 (OM606), and it made no difference. Light still comes on when oil level reaches the mid-point between the dipstick marks.

That is about where mine goes off, 1/2 way between upper a lower marks, 1 quart low.
