Let's Identify this euro 617 NA EGR

This tube links the exhaust header to the intake manifold. Just a direct connection, no valve or anything I can see..... I am trying to figure out if I can just put a cap on it or screw a plug into the intake.

Has anyone seen this thread or ferrule compression type fitting on a MBZ. ?? I am trying to figure it out before I may mangle the fitting to get it off.

Maybe this is aftermarket or added to "federalize" my euro 300d, it does have fed, signal covers front and back.

Pics

And intake setup

some Id10T installed that when they were monkeying around with the car... pull the two fittings out of whatever they are threaded into, and plug them.

those are plumbing compression fittings... pull them and plug them.

can you pull the air cleaner off, and take a picture of the whole thing?

I can but it is out where I work on it. Might have another day off this week, will update.

If you think they are just common compression I'll do just that. I was worried by the brass nut and thinking it may be Whitworth or some weird euro thread.... Hopefully just NPT either way I'll update soonish.

Thanks VSTEC

Ran into the same nonsense when I first got my G-Class (it was the very first thing we removed) Unfortunately there were very few threads on the exhaust downpipe so I never could plug it well. My last attempt to plug it and then hold it with a metal plate and wire went well and lasted a few years but even that plug fell out a few weeks ago. I'm currently waiting for a new NON Egr exhaust manifold.

Well, I am hoping to leave the original "plug" and just cap it. I know 4 caps but I am not that concerned with esthetics. Good to know that it was difficult maybe I should just go ahead with the I'll advised turbo add.

I do have some non EGR manifolds but they are for turbo 617. Or I could pull the nonturbo and no EGR manifolds from the yard.

Hmmmm. Decisions decisions. Plus I haven't much time to go pull the manifolds and it would be pricier than the 4 caps.

I also thought about welding them up and/or adding water meth Injection even though there aren't much gains for a non turbo. Anyway just want to save the intake and valves from the gunk of EGR

Well just typed a long post, got froze and logged out.

I'll just post the pics. I haven't gotten the plugs yet but I am optimistic. I'll have to figure something out as I cracked one getting it off.

No intake breather hole in air filter and no separator just straight in. Exhausts out was plugged completely with gook.

I had the same thing on my euro...just removed it not long ago....cut the pipe and slide it off the threaded caps...get two dimes...file a bit til they slide into the threaded cap/fitting...then screw them back on...I added some heat approved sealant just encase...easy...simply....cost .20cents

I cannot prove this but to me the pipe/fittings look exactly like the ones you fine on gas lines for driers and stoves. I am sure it is an American size as this was done in American when the cars were federalized...early 300d's seem to be hard to locate in junkyards but there was no egr on the pre 80's 300D so you can always change manifolds worse case.

They turned out to be just normal NPT fittings, or at least close enough. Very good fit, I replaced the one I cracked earlier and am using that to test the durability of using a black Iron pipe plug as a cap. the thread area is so very short, just the thickness of the manifold.

I may in the future cut the plug very short and screw it all the way in, then weld them together. oh well no worries at the moment.

Good deal. Maybe some red locktite on the plugs will help seal and secure them into the manifold.
