Competent Benz mechanic in/near Bucks County, PA?

Best friend's son, the new owner of my beloved 92 300D, has some rough idle issues...took it to a shop in Doylestown...and was told something along the lines of "this is just what happens when they get old." As if that's a diagnosis?? What a load of crap.

Does anyone know of a competent indie somewhere within reasonable striking distance of Bucks County?

Cantlins in Conshohocken. Not close to Doylestown about 45 mins. I have not used them, but hear very good things about them. They have pretty much every model discussed here in front of their shop and they are a Bosch shop as well FWIW.

I go by cantlin every day and used to live down the street from their old location. It's always amusing to see what old rare mbs are sitting on the lot for service on any given day. Everything from SLs to unimogs have been out front. FWIW I took my car there a couple years ago and was very happy.

Some of that is not knowing how to fix this particular type of car and the other part is knowing the customer with an older car isn't going to pay for a set of rebuilt injectors , retiming the pump , pulling the head and grinding valves.

It can be difficult to get customers just to pay for diagnostic time " Your a mechanic, you are supposed to know what is wrong just by looking, rip off! ."

What's the name of the shop, and what is their automotive background?

97 SL320 has some excellent offerings. Most ppl that buy these rather aged cars cannot conceive that they may come with very steep costs in their needs to drive 'em. An indie shop doing strictly maintenance can run $1,000.00 easy to bring up to snuff.

The other possibility is that the person making the comments about it being old, is likely accurate about what can happen in what it's experiencing, as well as not knowing or having the opportunity to do an analysis of the car's problems. It's hard to make an accurate assessment, 2nd hand, all without more information, is what we have here.

Contact a local MBCA Officer in that region for referrals.
