transmission downshifts to neutral/3rd at high rpm

hi guys

my transmission (722.303) started to act up a little bit yesterday
shifting is fine until working temperature (10 miles or so...)
but when worm it shifts from 4th to 3rd on high revs and no matter what I
do it wont up-shift to 4th... in a city driving I did not notice this as my route is usually under 5 miles...but now on highway it is disaster...45 mph and lock

tried today again...same thing....

until worm all gears are fine 2-3-4....bang no 4th...neutral...let go pedal..3rd. no more 4th.

checked bowden and oil...all fine....

what you say...vacuum?

edit: yesterday it happened at 80mph,..today at 70mph.....

thanks

I was hoping for K2 spring
well it sound that I have major issue....

as much as I adore w126 with auto it seems that time has come for manual/stick...

anyone can confirm these symptoms so I can declare my tranny officially dead?

The hydraulic system operates the band clutches......
so the cheapest fastest potential has to do with trying a varnish solvent like Trans'X
tiny bb sized balls are used in little tubes WITH GRAVITY for reverse valves... any varnish in those can mess with all sorts of things.... use can instructions for anything like that solvent.... particularly the percentage for the initial cleaning... if you do not find your tran's total volume you might not have the solution strong enough to do the job... follow can instructions carefully....

Don't forget the legit 300 FLYWHEEL for that....
in fact many who have already switched to manual trans would like to put the legit flywheel .

Ordinarily, it'd be very hard to find an OM617 flywheel, BUT you're lucky and live in Europe. That'll be one cool car if you can find a 5 speed and flywheel. A W126 coupe with a 617 turbo and 5 speed. Very neat!

thanks guys..

yeap...I may be lucky ....my friend has a "friend who has a friend" that owns
5 speed from w126 280s...it cost a fortune but if in superb condition,...it's mine

shifting points may be bit out of diesel spec but I knew guys with 4 speed
from 280s gassers... they did not complain

gonna meet with "the guy" in few days.....

cheers

sorry mate,

I ended this is another thread "280 automatic tranny on 617a"

so,my tranny went south and I plunge 280s tranny behind 617
I had to play a bit with vacuum and bowden cable to get proper shifting
moments but as for now (3 or so months) I'm very pleased ...

cheers
