Mine took forever to get from 100 to 115, and that is about all she had left. 87 300SDL with 255K at that time.

1992 300D 2.5 turbo

Pulled all the way to its 4,600 RPM redline in 4th-an indicated 117-118 MPH. It had nothing left, and took quite a while to get there (as opposed to the 500E, which hits the 3-4 shift pretty hard at 110...that car pulls PAST redline)

It's not a turbo. The speedo was still climbing. I just ran out of room. Call it a maximum demonstrated speed.

I will try later. The thing is, it will need some leg room, and I'm not as daring as I used to be.

I recently took a 400 mile high speed burn in my old turtle on the Coquihalla toll-way which is a climb from sea level to about 3500 ft.One way (early morning,no traffic) I averaged 70 mph.My top speed was about 100 mph (my speedo is metric and has a max of 180 kmh (112 mph),but I looked down after starting up a hill.On the steep grades I slowed to about 55 mph and held it in third.I was very suprised it went as well as it did ,but my fuel mileage dropped from the normal 32 mpg to 25 mpg.I thought you were supposed to get better mileage on the highway

Awesome. Hope you weren't looking down! I guess it doesn't matter at this point. Hey, how come you have a red line and I don't!

Okay, I am up to the challange. The speedo on oldsouth does not look like it is at 120mph, maybe 119 but not 120. I will do a speed run on my 87 300TD and hit the 120 mark, photo and post. Give me a couple of days to get the car ready.

Henry

210 km/h, speed limited (130mph) in our 1998 E300 Turbo. Felt like there was room left, too.

Every time I drive the car (it's my wifes) I am impressed with the performance of the 3.0 turbo diesel.

HGV - If you have a GPS, take it along because almost all of Mercedes speedometers are off a tad. Actually my car will do an indicated 121 mph but by the Garmin handheld GPS that I used to check it, I was only going 118 mph. That is the top speed for my car. (I was running out of room for the photo and did not want to take a pic in the middle of a long sweeping curve).
Dunno about the red line Tank. Mine shifts slightly above the red line.

I just think that going 120mph, taking a photo, looking at the GPS, watching out for law enforcement maybe to much. I will have to recruit a fool to be my copilot. I know a few.

Thanks

240D

With my 1984 240D I've one time reach the impressive top speed of 105 mph. As this speed, the needle of the tachometer was out of last graduation which is 100 mph.
My 240D has a 5 manual speed whith a long fith speed which enable me to run at 100 mph at about only 4000 rpm (but only when the road go down....)
When the road is straight I can run without difficulties at 87 mph and as this speed, the car is pretty quiet due to the fact the the engine is "only" at 3500 rpm.
