5 years....
wow, been 5 years since I bought my first mercedes, the 87 300D, an I'm STILL working on it. In total I've only driven it maybe 1000 miles in that time. It's become a quest at this point...

I've heard this kind of thing on another list before, remove Mercedes and insert Porsche 914.

I had a Dodge Dart like that. It ended up being a fun car. Not reliable or remotely safe, but it was fun.

I thought it was bad that I've only put about 6k or so on my 190D since I got it in December of 2012 I believe. I've put so much money and work into it, it's sat for so long sometimes. When I reshell it this summer because of rust, I will put even more money and work into it and it will sit some more. It's such a great car to drive though, slow but awesome.
We learned some history about my brother's car through autocheck or some similar service and found out that it's been driven less than 40k in the past 20 years.

It's been almost 25-years since I bought my first Mercedes-Benz diesel. It took me almost 25-years to wise-up and start driving them. My Mom and Dad bought their 1st of many new Mercedes-Benz diesel cars going on 50-years ago. I was hard headed, driving one POS American car after another, most all bought new. What a waste of money...... |

Come to think of it, I've only put 46,000 miles on my 300D in a bit over 9 years. My bike got 21,000 put on it in the first three years I had it.

I've had my 240D for 9 years now and I have only put about 20k on it. The only problem is it led to a Mercedes obsession and I currently own 4...

18 years
Wow, it has been 18 years ago we bought the 85 300D, still have it.
Now also have 4 and looking to buy another one... Wish I knew then what I know now, sure could have saved a ton of money going to independent repair shops. Took a long time for the light bulb to turn on. LOL Charlie

I guess I'm a bit of an outlier...it's been less than three years since I did the 617->107 swap and I've logged 82k miles of mostly trouble-free driving. It's obviously my daily driver and cross-country cruiser. 263k on the chassis and 290k on the engine.

I just clicked 10,000 since the end of January when i got my '92 300D. They love to be driven for sure. Thrusting back into daily driver status after being an "around town car" for the past three years has definitely awakened the beast.

Oh wow ngarover. You sure are persistent. I am kinda feeling your pain, though I haven't owned my W123 nearly as long as you. I've only owned it for 5 months now, and haven't really driven it...well, since I bought it actually. Every time I want to drive it something seems to go wrong with it...
Good luck with yours!

What all have ya done to the car? What's left? I bought my first MB in 2001, I put over 100K on it, loaned it to a buddy in PA for a few months, then gave it away to a helper who has driven it into the ground, and I will be getting it back soon... I'll likely rebuild it and put another 100K on it... As for the other MB's in my convoy... They have all gotten me several thousand miles... Some more reliably than others, but I'm a finicky driver... Any leak or noise, and I park the car and fix it, or drive something else, or buy something else to drive while I work on it... It's an obsession...
