W123 Fog light replacement with sealed beam
So I have an '83 300D I picked up cheap and the fog lights are in terrible shape, so are the sealed beam high/lows.
One of our companies bought out a bunch of sealed beam 12V lamps years ago so I have access to a bunch of them for free, which is why this is even a discussion. Is there a sealed beam that will fit in the fog light position of USA-spec W123 lights? I don't have the 123 here at work to measure but the 5001 looks like its pretty close in diameter. I realize they are a high beam not a fog pattern, but I'm looking to clean up the look of the front of the car more than make it historically correct. I have a mint set of yellow 123 fogs, but I don't think this car is in good enough condition to receive them. The fogs on the car are cracked, and are full of water and some green substance that I'm sure is alive. So they need to go.

yes the 5001 will fit. other people have done what you want to do. also, it wouldn't change the look of the car that much, up thru 80? 81? the fogs were clear anyway.

That's what I needed to know! Thanks.
I'll have to look at the car to see if the hot and ground are both female disconnects in the factory wiring to hook up to the blades on the back of the 5001. My '78 280CE has the clear fogs, it looks just fine.
