difference between 116 and 126

could some one tell me teh difference between the 300sd in these 2 chassis? i have a 78 300sd and might be getting a 126 soon,. so i was just wondering if it will be as good and as reliable as the old w116 300sd's

From what I have heard, reliability changed very little. The W116 is supposedly a little faster and has better acceleration, but many believe tjhe W126 has better handling than the W123 and W116. I do not own one, so I can't really tell you first hand. Good luck to you.

I currently drive a 79 116 SD and an 85 126 SD. The 126 is by far a quieter, more comfortable, more MBz like ride. The 116 is undoubtedly a faster and quicker car. My assumption is that the 79 hasn't an egr to gunk up intake and therefore breathes more efficiently.

W126 has a separate electric vacuum pump for the door locks. Makes it easy to add keyless enty.

W126 has adjustable upper seat belt anchors.

TX Bill knows his stuff! Only wish my car had a small courtesy light where the push button seats are on the door panel. Even my 94' Z28 had that! Ok, yes I owned a z28 but it was real nice.

I gotta add my $.02....with the 116, it's ALL about the chrome. Big double chrome bumpers, chrome around the windows, drip edge, chrome air intake grill......chrome windshield/rear window surround, even in the door panel in the window and, of course, that chrome hood star.....she just gleams.....

On the other hand, the 126 does have an understated elegance...sort of like a little old lady. Wonder if I bought the right car?

Chrome is awesome. And I always liked those classic round headlights too.

WOW, that is plenty info. i heard this from somewhere and it might be wrong but i heard that w116 has iron block/head, and the w126 has iron block, aluminum head. making the w116 a lil more reliable (no crack heads), but the w126 more horse power. can somebody confirm this? thxs

Did someone mention the telescoping steering wheel on the W126? I don't know if the SD has this feature. The SDL and SE do.
