Belt or a pulley? OM602 w/ video
Started yesterday. It's worse when it's cold. I took a video today. It's like a scratch/ticking noise hard to explain. not consistent but it does gets louder in higher rpms.
I just saw how easy it is to remove the belt so I'll do that next see how it looks. New to the om602 I could replace and adjust belts on the side of the freeway in my om616 or my brothers 617. Also do those rubber shims belong there? Heres the video Om602 noise video |

looks like your tensioner shock is shot... somebody put a large washer to hold it on... the washer is NOT supposed to be on there.

Relieve the tension on the spring, and check the action of the tensioner arm. There should be no forward/backward play. If there is, replace before you have a much bigger problem.

Should the tensioner arm be able to turn freely? or be stiff to turn?
Dampener is in good condition but the little metal bushings are out of shape and a rubber bushing is cracking. New Meyle dampener is on its . Whats the standard hardware set up on these? Mine seems to have been tampered with. I know the bolts are differents sizes and the end connected to the tensioner arm has a washer but what about the part connected to the head? Mine had a washer that works with the pivot point and two rubber shims. I removed the shims. Won't be driving the car until the damper is replaced. |

With Poly-V belts, the smooth side of the belt is usually where noise comes from if everything else is in good condition.
A quick check is to spray water on the belt, if the noise goes away it is a belt noise. To cure, sand the flat pulleys with 80 grit paper to break the glaze. ( A random or X pattern is fine ) Sometimes a new belt will have a shiny part number sticker that needs light sanding as well. What happens here is the belt skids front to back as it goes round the flat pulley causing a scritch sound. Sanding makes the belt grip as it goes round. A new belt will temporarily make the noise go away because the rubber is grippy but the noise will come back as the belt gets polished. |
