Gen II W126 Front Swaybar Refresh Q.

I'm replacing the bushings on the front sway bar on my SDL.

Read a lot of threads....but I'm still not sure about replacing the end bushings that connect with the upper control arm.

Does anything need to be done to other suspension components i.e. compress spring, to R&R these bushings? Or is it pretty much plug and play.

P.S. I've read about the inner sway bar bushing R&R woes / sway bar end repairs, and ready for that. I think.... lol.

Thanks

I had enough horizontal play to replace the bushings without having to pull the arm. No need to compress springs.

Just make sure you get QUALITY ones. I forget the brand I bought originally, but they were very, very soft. Under moderate braking the control arm would compress then so much they would pop out to the other side! The last set I bought was OEM and they were a harder material and I Have never had an issue since.

Rubber bushings are one of the areas where it's almost mandatory to use factory parts or at least German brands line Lemforder. OTOH, I bought a set of Meyle upper front strut mounts for my '95 E300D (not a W126, of course) and, although they came in a box that said "Made in Germany," on the plastic bag inside was a little sticker that said "China." This was mildly irritating. So far (2+ years) the Chinese mounts have held up but I'm keeping an eye on them.

Now that I think about it, the soft ones may have come with the repair kit.

How about Polyurethane

Anybody try polyurethane versions.

Saw some available on the net for around $40 total (sway bar) for both inner and outer bushings.

Ok just curious ....I'll just spring for the dealer versions...but?

Thanks again for you responses.
