alignment fudge after probable accident damage
Any steering handling alignment geniuses care to lend experience based wisdom?
My '84 300TD apparently has front end damage from an accident RF has +1 degree camber even with eccentric bolt adjusted all the way , its not even in the range MB recommends which is -1 degee to + 45', I'm shootin for zero control arm bushing is new, ball joint is snug, upper control arms are 2 years old, rest of steering suspension is fine, Rear springs and bushings all replaced with new three years ago. It chewed up a set of Michelins in the recent 2 years, repated rotation ie too much hassle My choices are: live with it, use cheap junk tires, take it for frame straitining which is big $$, ... i'm not into that considering the amount of money / who can you trust situation So I modified the upper control are mounting so its just a bit in toward the center line of the car by about .22 inches after careful calculation. That and a caster adjustment reduced the RF camber problem from 1 degree to .5 degree. Now I'll do a modification to the lower control arm mounting allowing it a quarter inch or so of movement further outward to correct the rest of the .5 degree problem. Mercedes allows .75 degree (45') + camber in the published specs. I know some of you have posted different specs, I am taking mine from Mercedes Technical Data Passenger cars. Caster and toe adaptation will be easy. Last edited by Rocket99; 07-19-2015 at 11:26 AM. |
