Any interest or reason to save body parts?
Cut out the sunroof for a friend, going to save the back half for myself incase anyone rear ends me, but is there any reason to save any of the rest?
Thank y'all in advance for the help!

IF the front fenders and the doors are in good shape, part it out and sell them. Same thing with all the glass

if the hood and trunk are good I'd save them and the doors if rust free and I had a place to store them. Worth 75 to 100 each.

I would get the impact gun and box all I could. The sad thing is we consider parts cars that others will consider repairable in the near future. I watched this happen to Datsun Zs. We used to turn our noses up at anything newer than a 1st gen. It has been years since I've seen anything older than an 86 that wasn't completely trashed.

Not sure why didn't get notified as subscribed. Anyway, yes, was planing to sell the doors. Even had someone interested in one, but now since I experienced folks are picky, going to save the rears since wagen specific, plus the fronts have less surface in the weatherstripping channel; used a Dremmel and in a few seconds cleaned a lot off. However, surprised none of the body sheetmetal is worth anything. The front fenders are rusted out. I was going to whack off the front parts as all three are small and should fit in a box. Maybe even save the flat sections for weld repairs. Plan is to take out the engine baja style as no crane and get it on a pallet, maybe with wheels. Still haven't done enough thinking. Yes, know about selling. But, got a good deal and have been passing it along. I have some space to save stuff, but only a couple of pieces of sheetmetal (already have a hood (long story). Plus, plan to section off the back end, set it tailgate up in a small side yard just big enough, then can store some stuff inside. Just to be clear, without the suspension which most likely go with the carcass to the scapper. Biggest issue is getting it all the way over there. Figure get my rope on it and drag it on over. Junkman, yes I have stripped a lot; just the driveline and suspension. I have carefully saved all the fasteners, even the wire ties, in labeled plastic bags until sure no one else needs it with the part. Then have special drawer cabinet they will go in organized by size. Especially since a wagen and so rare. Hate to send anything to scrap, but only have limited room, have a landlord, and most parts no one is interested in. I still have most of the parts from the Squareback I parted (body had major warping from a bad accident). I am no stranger to making the call to save. My Squreback I was told too far gone over and over by those on the West coast. But, seen what Easterners have none and this is nothing. Finally have most if not all the sheetmetal needed, just need help with cutting and welding. Anyway, this poor '79 TD was rode hard and put away wet. Couldn't get the engine to even kick over. I was told ran rough due to low compression on a cylinder. Took off the air filter lid and no air filter! Today check the oil before draining and at least two quarts over! The drain plug was sealed with R.T.V.. Then there is the chewing gum holding the mirror trim and other botched repairs I have forgotten. One hood hinge is gone and the other is disconnected. Looks like both pockets decent, but the under battery area has bad rust through. Rust continues with both front fenders, the firewall behind the fenders including a hole, both rockers, passenger jack points, and the floors along the rockers. Oddly, the rust is not in the back half, thus why saving. With all the damage due to neglect and abuse plus the rust, didn't see any way to save. Hurt to cut the sunroof out, but going to be used. Oh and the windshield is a Perkington that is going in the '85 to replace the broken one. Rotors look brand new so defiantly keeping those. Haven't pulled the pads to check those. Some of the tie rods if not all have good soft rubber, so bet someone could use those if the joints are still tight. Then there is all the vacuum lines which are now in a kitchen bag. Since soft figure can use to make repairs, unless for some odd reason someone wants the whole set. Any use to save the wiring? I pulled it for the copper and to get out of my way. Did it real neat just in case and to get practice.
