primary fuel filter change washer?

I replaced the rubber gasket when changing the primary fuel filter, but in the same kit that i ordered there was a crush washer as well. I did not see a crush washer when taking my primary fuel filter off... so i was wondering am i supposed to use a crush washer anywhere with the primary fuel filter? if so, should it be at the top of the bolt (on the top of the take between the bolt and the metal housing) or below between the filter and the housing).

Thanks!

I have never used the crush washer and put >100,000 miles on these cars. I haven't use them on the oil filter housing either and done just fine.

I think

you are actually referring to the secondary fuel filter (the one that looks like a spin-on oil filter. Your primary filter is the in-line plastic one.

Regardless, replace what comes off with the old filter. Do not add any gaskets or washers. Some of the additional parts are for other applications.

The crush washer is located on the large bolt at the top of the filter housing. Most times it does not need to be replaced except if you see leakage there. If not save it as a spare.

so does that mean underneath the metal thing that holds the spin on filter (not on top between the bolt and the filter?

It really depends on the model year. The later fuel filter stands have a pair of O-rings on the filter bolt, but the earlier version uses a crush washer under the head. You get the best answers when you identify the vehicle.

Yeah, what car?

Concerning a 616 or 617.

The spin on filter, secondary, depends on the hosing #, an 01 needs a seal ring on the outside, #02 needs two rubber "O" rings.

I've posted numerous pics, check the archives.

Look at the casting number on the housing.
If it is an 01 casting it needs a single o - ring and a good condition washer. The plastic ones for oil filter drain plugs are good.
If it is an 02 casting, no washer goes under the bolt head, but TWO o - rings need to be replaced on the center bolt.

AMBUSH, you can do a Google search for info like here.

https://www.google.com/search?q=mercedes+617++secondary+fuel+filter+washers&biw=826&bih=551&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAGoVChMI5euN6MqAxwIVhVsUCh3EfAZ1&dpr=1.55

Click on the Image tab and you get pictures, ea pic is a different web site.

https://www.google.com/search?q=mercedes+617++secondary+fuel+filter+washers&biw=826&bih=551&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAmoVChMIuKeBydWAxwIVBW8UCh3wmABI

If you put peachparts in the search, you will just get info from the Forum only.

To add. I think the changeover to the single crush washer to the dual o ringed primary filter bolt was 84-85. Above info is spot on!

Nope, 82 was the change year, some 82 have it some do not. Every 83 I've seen has it.

My '83 has the 01 filter stand. Pretty sure it's original.
