w123 Rear door check stops

Hi,

Do the front door stops also work on the rear doors? All I can find to order are listed for the front doors...

Thanks!

If not, I think I have some for rear doors. Let me look this evening, could get them to you rather quickly and cheaply.

Yes it has been reported that the door checks interchange front to rear on both sides.

IIRC, using the front on the rear will reduce the door travel to full-open just a bit. (Or maybe that was vice-versa?)

The OE rear part number also interchanges with the Coupe (CD).

hi,
i'm currently having my rear door checks replaced, my mechanic said the rears aren't made anymore, so they install front door checks on the rear doors, the difference is the fronts open 3mm less at the hinge, which translates to maybe an inch or 2 at the effective opening of the door...

it looks like meyle and euro make rear door checks, someone said meyle was better, but they also have to stop points instead of 1 like the oem's...

what did you end up getting an installing?

I just installed a Meyle 1237200516, which is intended for the front door, on the rear door of my 1984 300D sedan. It works fine. The door opens slightly more than the other side of the car that has its original stop, but it stops just short of hitting the front door when it is all the way open. The tabs (rods) on the front stops (1237200516) are a couple of millimeters longer than the ones on the rear stops (1237300316).

So, installing a front stop on the rear actually allows the rear door to open a little wider. If the door and the car's body are not misaligned, the rear door shouldn't interfere with the front when the rear door is all the way open. It is a close fit, though.

I do have a question and appreciate an answer from anyone who has tried this: Do the early style stops 1237200016 (front) and 1237300016 (rear) stops work on later model cars and the other way around?

Best

What some have been doing is purchasing aftermarket parts and removing the rubber parts and installing them on the original metal part.

It has been several years back but there was a rubber parts kit made in Thailand for them. However, I think I read that over on benzeworld.org.
