Tips on adjusting sun roof?

84SD - I pulled the wrong screws (actually small bolts) when removing my sun roof and it is binding and not sliding without help. The correct way involves pulling 1 bolt on each side and disconnecting the cable by removing the clip and letting the cable retract internally in the tube that is attached to the roof.

I removed the 6 bolts (3 on each side) that hold the roof ti the gold colored bracket on each side. Something must be off because the roof pulls back crooked and binds. I'm not sure what to do about it. A forum member made some replacements for the corner felt and I'm trying them out. The binding started before the new corner pieces so that is at least not the main issue.

Any ideas on proper adjustment? I didn't see where the FSM addresses this issue. The alignment is fine once it is closed.

At least the tracks are clean and greased.

There be this

PeachPartsWiki: Sunroof Repair

(Should be close enough for a W126)

Otherwise in the FSM 77-110 is the chapter you want (electric - manual 77-210)

On the W124, there are two alignment holes in the outside frame of the sunroof. with the sunroof closed, you supposed to insert two pins into the corresponding holes in the sunroof mount and when the two holes in the mount are exactly where the two holes in the frame are at, then the back of the sunroof is where it needs to be.

For the front, loosen the 1st sheet metal screw, then the screw in the hole can be turned to adjust the up/down of the front of the sunroof supposed to be 1mm below the roof.

But once again this is the way the W124 is adjusted, but I think the W124 uses some W123 and/or W126 parts, so the procedure might be the same.

No alignment holes on the 126. I'll have to figure it out.

There are 2 issuse.

1. The roof doesn't slide forward or back on its own. It binds at various places when retracting. I thought it may be twisting some how & tried moving the plastic slides in to keep the roof centered. They are all mounted to the roof in one way or another on adjustable arms that are mounted with bolts. That didn't help.

It looks like the tube around the fits into the tube mounted to the roof. Does this need greasing? I haven't seen any mention of it. The rails are clean and greased. The slides are clean and greased. I really don't see a good reason for it to have issues. Any ideas?

If this is on the electric motor - then it sounds like the cable is duff

The cable seems to work smoothly by itself. If I disconnect and retract the cable, should I be able to move the roof easily by hand? If so, I'll fiddle until I figure how to make that happen.

The maintenance manual has the information on how to lubricate slides etc - do you want a link?

I was looking in the body manual. There appears to be more info in the maintenance manual. I'll digest & report back.
