84SD oil in air filter housing

Oil is puddled in the air filter housing on the 84SD. It looks like possibly from the down pipe leading from the bottom of the air filter. Also, there is a little oil in the front of the turbo.

The engine idles a little rough on start up but runs normally when warm. I haven't done a compression check but have recently adjusted the valves. The oil filler cap doesn't move much when loosened. I also adjusted the rack damper a while back as the car idled rougher when I first bought it.

I was expecting that the rough idle might be explained by injectors needing work but haven't gotten to them.

Do I suspect turbo seals only or is there likely to be something else going on?

I am not sure what the crankcase breathing system looks like on your SD. If the Breather tube goes to a Breather Built into the Air Filter as it does on the my 84 300D some people claim they have sealed off the top of the Breather and that stopped the Oil From getting out of the Breather and into the Filter Housing.

It has been a long time ago but if the Drain Valve at the bottom of the Breather Drain is gunked up the Oil cannot drain out; again that is on my 84 300D.

Oil inside of the Turbo Housing can be from the Oil Vapor from the Breather system and or from a leaking seal on the Turbo but the seal leak is less likely.

There is some threads like the one below.

I did the below to keep the Oil away from the Air Filter.

There is other threads on modifying the intake system to keep the Oil Vapor away from the Air Filter Element.
