Water on the floor! 1987 300TD

Was mucking about the interior when I realized the carpet was wet in the passenger footwell. Lifted it all out and the bottom most piece was soaked!! It's like a sponge that thing!

Where does water here usually come from? I did wash the car last night.

Also discovered these two plugs UNPLUgged! Anything serious happen if I plug them back in?

Hopefully this thing dries out.

Any ideas?

Just a guess on the plugs, one looks like a charger for the cell phone, so the other may have been from the transponder that was in the trunk.

When "googled" one of the ecu 's uses is Burglar alarm.

The RED PLUG May be related to your Airbag / Emergency seat belt tensioners.

There is a reason ZOMEONE unplugged them.

I'd find out what they are before randomly plugging them back in.

There's a large warning sticker about the red one...don't disconnect! It's the airbag. However the other two are unclear.

What about the water. Any ideas,

looks like either your sunroof drains are draining into the interior because the rubber hoses shrunk and or the condensation drains are rotten. and the unplugged connectors are for the becker alarm. im guessing it would randomly go off because a bad connection triggering it so they just disabled it. your door locks should still work. it wont' affect anything else so unless you wanna start pulling door panels and your carpet up to find the issue, i'd leave it.

Thanks bt. Sunroof drains or aicon condenser eh. That gives me some keywords to search for more info! Regarding the plugs, ok. Best to leave well enough alone!

Very little rust on this car. But I think I found the problem.
This hole is full of water that never runs down. I've tried a stiff tube, stiff wire..:there's something into there. Water isn't going to flush it. Gonna try air next.

Gotta do something fast coz its gonna rain the whole week!! I just drove through about 15 minutes of rain and the footwell was full of water!!

Happy to report that 90 psi of air delivered through a drip irrigation hose pushed down as far as it will go blew whatever it is out of there. For good measure, I pushed the same hose down both front sunroof drains as far as they would go, and did the same. Felt the air blowing on my feet for that!

One question though: this little side drain...where does it drain to? When I pour water in (via a spout to concentrate the stream) where exactly is it supposed to come out? When I look under the car, it seems to just come out from everywhere including the seams!

It drains behind the splash guard, with the coolant overflow tank and vac reservoir.

So to clean it would involve raising the car and removing the tire? Yikes!

I recently went through this on my 300TE. Here is a link to my thread
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w124-e-ce-d-td-class/1916833-300te-water-leak-going-nutts-here.html

It pretty much goes over every source of water there is. For me it turned out to be the wire boot on my passenger side door. It had a tear in it and the water was coming in, telegraphing along the wires, and flooding the front passenger foot well.... Drove me nuts finding that one. Pretty much gutted the interior before I figured it out... When I initially replaced it it was still leaking. I had to silicone the new boot in to get a water tight seal. Then it was good....

Holy smokes dude! I sure hope I don't have to go to all the trouble you had! Thanks for documenting and sharing it though. Looks like I've got a fair bit of sleuthing to do.

God thread on the boot made me look at my passenger side door boot. It was fine. However, I glanced at the back one, and whilst it was still all soft and rubbery, it was completely detached at the body end!

The plastic ring bit was in the body, but I guess someone had opened it up at one time and didn't bother putting it back together. It was hard to fit it in, but after about 15 mins of finagling, I did it.

I wonder if it'll fix the water ingress problem.
