Early w123 instrument cluster: silver caps on gauge needles

The early w123 gauges have silver caps to cover the circlip where the needle is held on the stem.

Question: how are those caps held in place? Do they snap on?

Want to find out before I go breaking something.

The ones on an old unit I still have appear to have been held on by glue.

Ok glad I asked.

Any tips on removing same, without damage?

(I purchased a used cluster with working ODO and TRIP but I need to swap the cap off my old cluster onto this one. And my track record with small fiddly bits is moving in inverse to my advancing age....)

Thanks

I've had a few just fall off. I would probably try to pry at it with a small screw driver. Put something between the screw driver and the gauge face though.

After this many years the glue has dried out and the caps fall off. seen a lot in the yards that way.

The Spedo needle can be popped off by using two spoons on each side and lift up. Not responsible if YOU break it.

I have done it way and has always worked. Put some masking tape on the spoon so I didn`t ding the spedo face.

I don`t know if the center caps will swap from one to the other though.
