That's terrible! I'll do my part for the planet and come pick up that diesel guzzler for free for destruction!

Save that. It might be a collector's item someday, like the misprinted pennies.

37 mpg hwy doesn't sound great for a diesel sedan. My 82 Chevy S-10 pickup spec'ed 39 mpg hwy and I usually realized that in those 55 mph days. Isuzu 4 cyl engine was great, but the rest of the vehicle was pretty pathetic.

BillGrissom Did not think about that! for real it can be a collectors item someday.

The way I understand mileage get's into 40+/-. I am new to the CDI perhaps someone else can shed more light on

Mine gets Up to 41 mpg on an Interstate road trip for the day.

Some 05 CDI guys here report Up to 48 mpg on a roadtrip. The 05 must've been set up better than the 06es???

The cumulative mpg meter resets if the car isn't driven for several hours.

Running to downtown on the Interstate and back - 28 mile RT, yields Up to 37 mpg generally.

I'm always more interested in over all daily mileage calculated over a long period of time. Some report mileage for 1 trip going down hill with a tail wind and a short refill then claim that's what their true mileage is.

What's your average mileage over the last 10,000 miles?

My 05 gets slightly better than the wife's 06. I get from 39-41 on a long trip. On her 06, a pretty consistent 38-39. It could be because my 05 is broke in more at 220,000 miles, compared to her 65,000 miles, but its hard to say. It could easily be the rolling resistance of my Michelin tires vs her Dunlap's. Too many variables to say for sure.
At any rate, I am quite happy with the mileage on both.

What is interesting, is that i had a bad injector seal on my 05, to where if you took the engine cover off, you could watch and hear diesel spray out the top. I had it fixed, and my mileage seems unchanged, i expected it to be better.

x2. There are so many variables that need to be smoothed out: weather, inclines, passengers and cargo, pump cut off, etc... I'm just getting started with my 06. My realistic hope is to see 35 mpg with roughly 50/50 city/highway driving. Tracking with Fuelly so should a good sense in 5000 miles or so. Over 1135 miles so far I'm at 34.7 mpg.

I haven't driven my car 10K miles yet. But in the 7K miles, I'd guesstimate about 26 mpg in my CDI - in the styles of driving it's done.

My average over the 13,000 miles I have driven the 05 shows 34.8. I am probably 85-90% highway.

I have calculated the mileage of individual tanks manually a few times, and it is so close to what the car indicates for mileage, that i just accept it now.

Broken in engines get worse mpg, not better.

Sorry SRJ. Guess again. It is always puzzling to me how you get so much wrong in your posts here. Maybe you are confusing "broken in" with "broken". The terminology can be tricky.

And sorry you get such poor fuel economy in your car. That must be so disappointing given that you thought your car would get 40 mpg even when driven over 100 mph.

I did a 6400 mile road trip from OH to CA. Mostly interstate but some city and mountain driving. Temps in 80s to low 100s.

Averages 34.9 mpg overall.
