W140 S350 Fan Clutch Question??

Hi,

I bought a W140 S350 diesel almost a year ago without knowing it has NO radiator fan and clutch at all. Please don't ask me why because I already feel so dumb now.

So I ordered new plastic radiator fan (part# A6062000023) and clutch (A6062000022). To my understanding, the new plastic fan should be a direct replacement of metal fan (A1162052406), is it true?

The problem I am having is, when I put the clutch and fan onto the water pump pulley, when everything is tighten up, the fan blade will hit the hook on the front of the engine. Am I missing anything in the middle? My estimate is I need about 3/8 or 1/2 inch to clear it. I have checked startekinfo.com. From the pictures there, it is how it is. But the gassers, it has few other pieces. Can anyone who happen to have a diesel OM603 tell me what is going on? Unless the way I installed the fan or clutch in the wrong direction?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Why is that piece of metal there? There is a cast hole in the head for lifting the head/engine. Is that piece just bolted on?

It almost looks like someone bolted on the metal plate that is used to lift the engine or head and is located at the rear of the head bolted along with the intake manifold. I attached a picture with the plate focused.

I believe that piece is for lifting the engine. There are two bolts attach this piece to the engine. I thought about removing the metal piece, but not sure it is safe to do so? Why it is interfacing with fan? Isn't the plastic fan should be the same size as metal?

You might be right, that piece should not be there. I searched google images, I don't see it in other pictures.

I think what happened was I sent this car to a shop to replace glow plugs. The guy removed the intake manifold, and he just installed this bracket to the front instead of putting it back to where it was.

So now the new questions where it should be? From the picture above it is hard to tell.

HAHAHAHA

Your mechanic put the intake on and then noticed he forgot that piece. So he just bolted it to the front hoping you wouldn't notice.

Remove it. It doesn't belong there.

These pictures are from my 601 but the only difference is the intake looks different. The piece still goes in the same place.

Thank you for your help. I have put it back to where it belongs. Why it is so hard to find a mechanic that can be trusted! Gee...

You're welcome. IDK why he didn't put it where it belongs. It isn't like you even have to remove the intake! You just have to remove the two bolts and put it on top of the intake. :/ Well anyway, at least you have a fan now.
