1987 300D parts interchange

I bought a hood for my son's 1987 300D. It came off a newer gasser, but was told it would fit. Bolted it on, and the hood sticks up above the fender 1/2 to 3/4 inches near the hinges. I adjusted the hood as far down on the bolts as I can, but still sticks up. Is this because the hood is from a newer model (I think it was from a 1990)? Is there any way to lower the hinges so this will fit, or do I need to get the older hood?

Thanks for any help.

What happened to the original hood? You may have damaged hinges.
All the 124 hoods will fit... 94 and up will need different headlights to look right, but it'll fit fine.

Don't know if it came from a coupe or not. Is there some measurement or some obvious difference to identify it?

Thanks.

I think it should have the VIN of the original car, you can stick the VIN into the EPC and get the vehicle data card which has all the model info.

You can tell from the VIN what body style it came from. WDBEx3 are sedans, Ex5 are coupes, Ex9 are wagons...

I searched the hood and found no numbers anywhere on it. What next?

when I put the 94 hood on my 87 I had to remove the fenders and lower the hinge to make it fit flush. The original hood was flush to begin with.

you can see how it fit before the adjustment here.... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/3219136-post4.html

I did not have this problem, my '94/'95 hood fit with only minor adjustments.

The pictures show the hood sticking up about the same as my situation. I pulled the fenders to lower the hinges and the first hinge bolt I tried to loosen snapped off. All of the remaining5 loosened fine. I'll be looking for a hinge this weekend. Should I buy both hinges, or are they all the same?
