98 E300 Turbo Hard Starting Blues... - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

All weekend, and again this morning, our 98 E300 has been suffering terribly from the cold start blues.

I did a search, and I'm convinced that the car needs new glow plugs. (Initial rough running, smoke).

Before I present this diagnosis to the dealer, anyone have any other potential reasons why it would do this?

Helen just called. Dealer says it's the glow plugs.

Nope. No indication of something amiss other than the durn hard-starting problem. Warm starts are fine, but cold starts are a bear, and the car runs rough and smokes. First time it did it, Helen came in from the garage and practically threw the keys at me. It's an ugly problem that's easily solved, but very undignified to have your beautiful late-model E-Class running like some 'ol Hyundia Pony beater car.
