300 CD antenna, disappeared

Anyone have a pic of how the darn thing is attached?

Mine fell inside the fender, the pic shows a rigged up deal.

I have a new seal, but where else is the other anchor point? If there is one.

Not sure what "fell inside the fender means". Like the nut on the outside of the fender came off and the whole antenna fell out?
You're going to have to rig something up, since that's the wrong antenna. See the slot above the ground wires? That's where the original bracket from the motor attached to.

Just noticed you have an SD, too. It'll look the same, if the SD has the right antenna in it.

I noticed one day a hole in the rear fender, months passed by, once I had help and was able to remove the inner plastic lining, I found the following, see pics.

There is no nut on an 84 CD, my SD has a different set up, see attachments.

The seal for the CD, I'm thinking was the only thing holding the antenna in place.

The epc shows no lower bracket, or any bracket at all for the CD. The sedans have a lower bracket.

As you can see, this is not the antenna that came with the car, note the hacked plug.

SD has an original antenna.......The CD has an aftermarket antenna....You'll either have to jerry rig it, wait for someone to hopefully chime in that has the same aftermarket antenna or replace it with another aftermarket antenna....

Well, it is a Hirshman (sp?) and the SD has one as well, yet that has a different plug and bracket.

Coupes are few and far between, I know, just trying to understand the stock attachment points.

Yeah but mercedes wouldn't run wires to the antenna, if they weren't meant to be used.....and well I have yet to see a mercedes come from the factory with electrical tape "repairs"

There should be a bracket that attaches the antenna to the pinch weld....If there isn't one laying on the bottom, well you'll need to make one or buy a replacement antenna....coupe or not a coupe....

The antenna pictured is not the original antenna for a 300CD. Pictured is a universal Hirschmann antenna that is not specific for the 300CD. The original antenna has a nut and bezel on the top (except for the 1985 CD which does not use a bezel or nut but uses an all rubber grommet through the hole in the quarter panel, the grommet holds the antenna mast in place. My 1982 all original CD does have a bracket on the bottom of the antenna. I have several proper antenna bezels and nuts for a pre 1985 CD. If you need these parts let me know and I will be glad to send them to you free. Unfortunately I do not have a proper antenna for a CD. Contact Becker Audio in New Jersey. They service Hirschmann antennas and probably have the proper antenna with lower bracket. The bracket attaches to a slot in the bottom of the antenna body using a bolt and nut with the lower end attaching to the pinch weld where the brown ground wires are attached. The bracket does have some slight adjustment provided by the slot in the bottom of the antenna base.

I would say the bracket is not in the EPC because its part of the antenna assy. Each car model had a different dash number on the antenna depending on what they went in. So when I found a "correct" Hirschman antenna for my 126, it had a 123 bracket on it. I called Becker Audio and they sent me a new mast and the correct bracket for a 126.
I too had the universal Hirschman and hated it. It was too loud and only went up all the way. The correct Hirschman antenna is well worth fitting.

^ I'm going by the epc, for a coupe, is the first attachment, for a sedan, the second. For those that aren't aware, the shaded parts "are not for this model designation."

Thanks guys, will work on it this afternoon.

If I can get it mounted satisfactory, I'll use it. I did pick up a bracket from a Gen 2 SD.
