Close, but no cigar
I was trolling Dallas craigslist for kicks yesterday when I ran into an ad for a 240D motor. One of pictures mysteriously featured a 717.400, so I e-mailed the guy to ask about the transmission and if it was for sale. I didn't hear back, but when I looked at the ad again today, I noticed a phone number listed as well, so I called it.
Apparently, a guy in a 4-speed 240D picked it up a few days ago :(. So close! Back to the AX-15 drawing board, I guess... |
:( Just tell yourself it had a crunchy 2-3 synchro and an input shaft bearing that sounded like a woodpecker. Then you won't feel like you missed it.
|
And the seller was probably a bloodthirsty killer who would have taken down a guy like me who has arms the size of drinking straws.
|
When did you bulk up? :P
|
Our PnP had a 240D w/Getrag that I got the speedo drive from to make a plug for mine. Shoulda harvested the whole trans set-up but I didn't realize how scarce they would become. This was a couple of years ago. But maybe the trans was a mess.....
Silly me Dan |

Four speed Getrag just like mine. I didn't know they made a 5 speed in a 240D. It went to it's grave w/o a soeedo drive.
BTW - there's a (IIRC) '85 300D at the Conway, SC PnP (not TOO far from me). If I needed stuff I'd make the trip but maybe Greazzer or someone might visit it. Dan |
