99' OM606 Alternator Pulley

My issue is what I think is tensioner noise. I have replaced the spring with new and the shock off a known good car, but it is still there. While, I know I should replace the tensioner as the last item in that are, wondering about the alternator pulley as well.

This item is referenced in another thread, but it got me wondering if mine is going or gone bad. INA makes these, as does Gates, but Im not sure how to test it to see if its bad. Also, has any one changed these on a 98-99 E300?

As far as tensioner/spring noise is concerned, the one on my car buzzes when the alternator is under load, especially right after starting.

I know it's the shock mount because I can press my finger on it and it gets quiet.

Not sure if this is applicable to your situation but the knowledge may be of some use.

The pulley for the 99 606 is the pulley I bought for my 95 to replace the solid pulley.

The gates part is Gates 37011P, you'll also need a H22X33T splined tool to remove and install the pulley.

When I did the pulley on the 95 it was easiest to remove the alternator, I had to use an impact to remove the old solid pulley, and then install the new pulley with the tool.

If you're comfortable removing the alternator, removing and fitting the new pulley is much easier than that.
