Mouse traps can be put into PVC pipes with holes big enough for mine to enter.. but too small to be of danger to cats , etc....
There is also an excellent multi trap which does not require bait... and is no threat to cats....I have used this one and was pleasantly surprised by how effective it was... learned about it after the pickup problem....

Ketch All Mouse Trap, Kness Ketch-All

Or just get a 20 liter plastic pail put along side of a garage wall to allow easy entry a bit of food inside the pail in the morning you should have cleared your garage of mice they ain't the smartest of creatures they get in but can't get out. Only downfall for you is your cat may bring the carcausess inside your house if you don't get to it first!

My cars are outside...no garage wall in sight...
I thought this was about a long term storage situation which might preclude using bait and things which would need to be renewed and serviced...

Are Canadian mice weaker than US mice? The ones here have no trouble jumping out of a 20 liter pail on one leg.

I suspect he forgot to mention putting several inches of water in it... if they are swimming with slick sides.. they have nothing to push off from....

But he also said: "Only downfall for you is your cat may bring the carcausess inside your house if you don't get to it first!" which leads me to believe there is no water since cats don't like to get wet. Would a cat jump into a 20 liter pail with water to retrieve a dead mice?

OK... are we talking about a ' skate boarder rat' patrol program ?
or the Border of your province program ?
I realize you are Canadian so something may have been lost in translation...
So, when a RAT is found in the province, what happens ? Are RCMP called out ?
What in Canada constitutes ' a big deal ' ? Rats do not happen by themselves.. are Search Parties sent out in the area for the rest of their families ?

They might jump in to get a live mouse..... Hunt instinct kicks in. Cats are the ultimate predator.

Guys, you're all awesome..What started out as a :"do I need to anything for longer term storage" has turned into a topic about how to best kill mice.

Only on PeachParts...:D

leathermang 11-04-2015 12:47 PM

If you have not had a mouse problem in a car you may not understand how serious we are about it... they can do a lot of damage and make it smell bad for years unless costly measures are taken to correct it. Not the kind of surprise one likes after having taken lots of other precautions to keep the car safe and able to be used at the end of the storage period.

Yes exactly the boarders are patrolled, containers inspected this province claims it is totally rat free. Not sure how much money is spent but I envisage jeeps with machine gums patrolling the boarders.

leathermang 11-04-2015 12:50 PM

Ok.. do yall call the edges of something ' boarders' ... or ' borders' ?

Sorry been busy and in a rush today borders would be correct. No RCMP would just pass along the rat patrol number which is similar to an emergency number. Those guys take it seriously, act quickly and make certain all are eliminated on occasion they resort to burning the building if it calls for it. Hopefully they use diesel for the ignition source with flame throwers?

I quess we have wimpy mice they end up running around the outside perimeter but can't seem to make it out. You add water if you wish to destroy the mice some like to relocate the mice that option is up to the individual.
