hirschmann antenna mast

lately my antenna has retracted partially, leaving about 2-3" exposed. and I just push it down the rest of the way. figured its time to replace the mast.

the epc part # is: b6 6 82 8037

search results for this # are slim.

is there another compatible #, or should this come from the dealer?

not sure if these parts are interchangeable.

M*******Source has two varieties available. toothed and smooth. don't know if these are hirschmann, or third party.

thx.

I believe the question is what year/model of car are you referring to.

Also, have you tried to lubricate the antenna with transmission fluid?

'83. 300CD.

yeah, sorry. wasn't sure if model/year would help, since there seems to be different variations on these antennas.

tried lubing with lithium spray a few months ago.

See if this one matches your antenna:

Note the Hirshmann reference #'s

First, you might want to try this:

Try cleaning and lubing the antenna:

If I recall correctly, whunter, our moderater, uses something like an ammonia-based window cleaner (Windex) to clean the antenna, then wipes it with a thin coat of ATF (very slippery stuff). I trust that I'll be corrected if I got this wrong.

or,

Clean the antenna with the official Hirschmann antenna wipes, and raise and lower the antenna several times. I think the guy at M------- S----- has a video on cleaning the antenna shaft. He shows how to do it with the Hirschmann wipes. You might want to look at that, if you haven't already.

or,

I have had good luck cleaning the antenna with brake parts cleaner- raise antenna, wipe down with a paper towel which has been sprayed with brake parts cleaner, lower and raise a few times, repeating wiping the antenna each time it is raised up. Keep doing this until you stop getting dirt on the paper towel. Then, wipe with the Hirschmann antenna wipes, or I use 3M silicone spray on a paper towel. Lower and raise the antenna a few times, wiping with the silicone each time. Same thing- keep doing this until you stop getting dirt on the paper towel. I sometimes lower/raise the antenna and wipe for 5-6 times.

I have read from a reliable source, the late Marshall Booth, who was moderator at another MB diesel forum, that the Hirschmann antenna wipes have silicone lubricant.

You might want to try cleaning and lubricating the antenna first before you go out and plop down a bunch of money on a new antenna shaft. This has worked on the antenna on my car, going on 11+ years. The prior owner had the antenna replaced 6 (six) times between 1982 and 1999! I guess the mechanics/shops he used didn't know this, or were happy to make $$$ off of him.

Even if this doesn't fix the problem, you'll have a better idea about how to take care of your antenna from now on.

Good luck.

The interchangable mast you need is on ebay. And the numbr will be on the very tip of the mast on the top button flat part. You will need to pull all the arial outfrom the trunk of the car to clean all the broken bits of old nylon drive out from inside there .Refiting instructions are in the packet new mast will come in

The OEM part is available from Becker USA in New Jersey. Just call and give them the model number of your antenna and they'll hook you up.

It's hirschmann model 485 with screw on metal
Cover.

I tried cleaning with windex and lube with atf.

Worked great.

I'll probably still order a replacement to have in a pinch.

Thx for all the helpful posts.
