2.0 ltr. TDI engine
2.0 ltr. TDI engine, Not counting the scandal, is it a solid long life motor with a few BOLOs? Assuming doing routine maintenance.

I'll never suggest owning a Volkswagon.

VWVortex might be a good place to ask... I would assume that there would be a lot of people there with experience. That said, they might be a bit biased .

Go CDI. Seems like they are the best MB diesel after the 210.

Last thing I'd ever own or drive.
Buy a nice Honda. They're great cars! Anyway, that's what I'd do. |

Oh no, I agree with you. I meant after the 210 as in all the others from 210 to present are not as recommended as the 05/06 CDI. Lots of folks dislike the OM642 V6. Maybe I worded my post strangely. Sorry.

Prolly a very capable engine. I just personally wouldn't want the rest of the car - but then, I've never been lured into the VW lair or trap of ownership. I don't think they make the quality of vehicle I'd buy. I'd probably like the engine in my inboard boat, if I had one needing a nice diesel engine. I dunno......

Which 2.0 TDI engine? There have been 4 so far.
Our '12 Passat's lifetime average fuel economy is 41 - not bad for a big car (bigger than a W126) with an automatic transmission! On the 09+ motors the emissions control system put a lot of strain on the turbo. They also don't tolerate bad quality fuel (just like common rail MBs). -J

Back in the day, I bought a new 98 Jetta TDI (A3 body). Fantastic car that didn't need much along our long journey together. It liked to eat power window regulators and the routing of coolant hoses was completely ridiculous from a service standpoint. It also rusted something terrible along the door bottoms and in the rocker panels. After 5 or 6 body shop repairs, I just let it rust away.
It served my purpose well for 488,000 miles. The miles and age didn't kill it. I was coming home late from a long day at work and turned off the highway to get to my house. Unknown to me, the road I was turning onto was freshly tarred and had a ton of loose gravel laid on top the tar. I still had some speed when starting the turn and caught loose gravel. Swung me head-long into a tree almost dead center. I still miss that thing. TDIClub Forums - Powered by vBulletin is one of the best VW TDI resources out there. More than enough information to keep you busy a long time. Good luck.
