Reluctor Ring ABS fault?
 

my mercedes w210 e300 turbo diesel 3l 1998 is giving me an abs fault when travelling at about 68mph ish and above for various distances my abs bas light comes on cruse control and abs dont work if you stop and restart everything is ok till 68mph ish again
can you change the front Reluctor Ring
i have already changes the brake light switch and done the steering from lock to lock thing

Wouldn't you want to start by checking the sensors?

Yeah, you should just start by inspecting. You might find the sensors have a bunch of metal fillings on them. Clean the sensors, inspect the tone rings, and check the wiring from the sensors to be sure they are not cut.

Have you tried an OBDII scanner? Although I think MB might have it locked down and you won't be able to get the codes that way. From what I heard they may only pass the legally required emissions related codes to a consumer ODBII scanner.

In that case, take it to an Indy or the dealer and pay for 1 hour of diagnostic time. Have the shop plug it into Xentry, it will instantly tell you what is wrong.

Edit: by chance do you have different size tires front and rear? The computer does not like that.

That's a sickening problem! I'm not following why you think it's related to a front wheel?Here's what I know the 97 s500 reluctance ring is cast onto the front wheel hub and I don't know when they relocated the reluctance ring to the hub inner seal. Anyways I would as suggested above suspect a sensor. Since it happens at speed it would be a high frequency at a sensor causing the issue. I would try to gently remove the sensors if they don't want to come out don't force them they break fairly easily rather spray some penetrating oil under the retaining bolt as the ground connection corrodes. Follow the sensor wires and check the other end of the sensor connection.

ODBII will tell you the same as the idiot lights. Not certain what a diagnostic reader would store other than BAS ABS history faults. Since the error is reset once engine is restarted I'm not sure if individual sensor intermittent code faults are stored in history.

The hub seal on this model e class has the mag part of sensing mechanism. Were front wheel brgs recently serviced? Ck for damage.

yes both front wheel bearings were changed recently ill get the garage to check the hubs

Hook puter to it and it will tell you which one needs attention. The face of the seal can not extend past edge of hub. If they reused seals after servicing brgs then I'd recommend replacing them. I've personally made the mistake of not properly positioning them resulting in damage of one.

Why would one reuse the grease seal when rebuilding the front wheel bearings on a W210?

The official MB rebuild kit comes with new seals.

I don't know how one would remove the old seal without damaging it.

I used a bearing install kit to drive in the bearing races into the hub. Then set the grease seal by using one of the aluminum disks attached backwards to the handle. Seats the grease seal nice and even to just perfectly flush with the hub face.

Harbor Freight item 95853 is just the ticket for this job.

I've never reused lip seals. I don't know all the details regarding the "both front wheel bearings we changed" statement. Without this info I don't know if they were replaced or not.

one front wheel bearing was replaced in the summer another last month both done by al local indy garage or shop as i think you call them in the USA
i can only assume the did the job properly with all new parts
