Adios biodiesel: use Cyclox diesel

Ran across the following add on CL. Anyone ever hear of this stuff?
Sounds like some kind of Snake Oil, and expensive at $25. Just add
2 gallons to a tank full. Wow, $50 onto of the price of the fuel? What a deal.

When I read Cyclox I was thinking Cyclops. :)

Here is the link if you can`t wait to part with $900.

Adios biodiesel: use Cyclox diesel zero soot

Adios biodiesel: use Cyclox diesel
Okay, enough bad news from the alternative diesel world. How about a sign of positive progress? Michael Boot, a doctoral student and researcher from Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) in the Netherlands says he's invented a type of diesel fuel, or a diesel additive, that produces significantly less soot than petroleum diesel and even decreases soot emissions quite disproportionate to its ratio when blended with petroleum diesel. Want even better news? It can be made from what's widely considered to be a waste product.

The new blend, called Cyclox, burns slower than diesel, allowing oxygen to mix with the fuel longer and thus burn more completely. Cylcox is a diesel blend comprised of 10 percent of cyclohexanone ((CH2)5CO, a precursor of nylon) and 90 percent regular diesel. In tests conducted on an idling passenger car, Cylox produced 50 percent less soot emissions than pure petroleum diesel. That's right, just 10 percent cyclohexanone cuts soot emissions by 50 percent. More impressive is that at a 50/50 air-to-fuel ratio, the mixture produced zero soot. Zero. Perhaps the best news of all is that cyclohexanone can be made from lignin, a part of the cell walls of plants and trees. Paper factories, like the one pictured above, produces a lot of waste lignin. Cleaner diesel from a dirty industry's waste stream? Yes, please.

have 1 drum left (used in my mercedes 300D) u need about 2 gal/tank
$25/gal
or 1 drum = $900
I know this is expensive but
cheapest price for cyclohexanone is $80/gal for 5gals

That sounds so legit, I can't even...

A fool and his money are soon parted.

I wonder if anyone actually buys this garbage.

I'm trying hard here to see an actual benefit to the end user, other than maybe feeling better for allegedly creating less pollution? What benefit would you have by using this???

Maybe he's marketing to TDI owners :D

If its as claimed, it will be part of the future blend of Euro diesel.

Cyclo has a wicked high vapor pressure. But then so does gasoline. I'd have evaporation concerns about it.

There is a persistent myth that acetone boosts performance and reduces emissions. It doesn't. This stuff is also a ketone and would probably have similar effects ( not). My bet is that it is a powerful solvent, which would likely dissolve both harmfull deposits and your hoses.

I worked at a place that made medical tube sets, Vinyl (I think) and PVC doo-dad components all bonded together. Cyclo was part of the solvent for bonding them. The workstations needed to pull air past the solvent pot, into the workbench and out the building to keep the workers safe. A drum of it is not something I'd keep in my garage, for concerns of toxicity, explosions and fumes.

Dont know about acetone, but some of us throw toluene into our gas for the higher compression rigs. It works. In fact, my 2.7TT Audi loved it, although its for my drag car and I wouldnt ordinarily use it in a daily driver, OR a diesel.
