86 SDL Transmission Problem
A while back, I ended up blowing the transmission pump. Since the car has over 200K on it, we decided to rebuild the transmission. Everything went fine until the test drive. It would not upshift. We found that by quickly 'bumping' it into neutral and back into drive, it would upshift. Funny thing is that when you slow up and it downshifts, as long as you do not stop, it will then upshift.
We have had numerous people look at this and are at a loss. Any help would be greatful !!

When you installed the transmission did you make any (hydraulic or vacuum) measurements? I assume when you say it won't upshift you mean it is stuck in first gear? In which case I'd be looking at the B1 system - either brake band or valve body control...

The entire transmission was rebuilt. It will 'bump' shift upwards for all gears and as long as you don't fully stop, it will downshift and then upshift normally.
